As an organisation built on collaboration, we are a long-standing joint venture of our university partners at the CSIRO, with funding from state and federal governments, working together to deliver world-class high-performance computing infrastructure and expertise. 

Quantum computing has been introduced into Pawsey as another tool in the arsenal of computing to solve the problems that we face.

As part of a partnership with German-Australian startup Quantum Brilliance, Pawsey is home to a world-first quantum computing system in a supercomputing centre, which will be used to demonstrate and test hybrid models of quantum and classical computing. 

If quantum technology can be integrated with classical computing to unlock another generational improvement, we will be a step closer to tackling complex challenges that are remain beyond the reach of even the most powerful computers in the world like Setonix.

Pawsey is proud to support one of the world's biggest science projects, the SKA Observatory (SKAO).

With construction starting on the SKA-Low telescope in Western Australia -- at Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, CSIRO's Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory on Wajarri Yamaji Country -- we have begun piloting some SKA-related computer initiatives, and have continued our support of CSIRO's ASKAP radio telescope and the Murchison Widefield Array radio telescope led by Curtin University. SKA-Low is one of two telescopes being built by the SKAO, together with SKA-Mid in South Africa.

Being able to work on an international project of this scale illustrates the investment Pawsey brings to Australia. Having world-class infrastructure such as Setonix helps to attract additional investment as these technologies facilitate research, improve project viability, and encourage greater collaboration.

That research creates downstream advantages for the wider community through increasing employment and new models for better decision making, for example about a rapidly changing climate or developing novel battery technologies.
